The Aptitude Music Program
Is your child showing an interest in music?

The Aptitude Music Program allows you to try lessons on your choice of:

We provide you with everything you’ll need to help you start, without a registration fee:

  • six private lessons,
  • a practice instrument to use at home if required
  • the first set of music books required for your instrument or
  • a music dictation book and practice cassette for voice students

At the end of the program, your instructor will provide an evaluation of your progress and make a recommendation to help you decide - without pressure or obligation - how to best reach your music goals.

If you have enjoyed your lessons and would like to learn more, you can continue your music studies with our regular music program. If you liked your lessons but felt the instrument isn’t the right match, you may want to try the Aptitude Music Program with a different instrument. And, if you decide music lessons is not for you … that’s okay too! There is no further obligation to continue and the music books are yours to keep.


Programs for Younger Children
Children and music are an ideal match. Sounds, rhythms and melodies engage and intrigue them. Music occupies, challenges, entertains and introduces students of all ages to a world of possibilities.
Tauber Music has several programs to introduce you or your child to music:



Invitation to Music - Level One
Will your child begin Kindergarten or Grade One in September? Would you like to nurture your child’s interest in music but don't own a piano or keyboard? Does your child show an interest in music or in playing a musical instrument?

Begin your child's music education with Invitation to Music - Level One, a one-hour weekly class for young beginners. Using proven lesson plans, our instructor will motivate and teach your child at each lesson. Training and activities include:

  • keyboard playing
  • ear training
  • rhythm training
  • musical games
  • musical crafts
  • workbook exercises and
  • singing.

Parents are always welcome to observe classes as they wish, but are not required to participate in the lesson. After each class the instructor will inform you of assignments and practice goals for the week ahead.

Lesson Fees for Invitation to Music – Level One include:

- a one hour group lesson each week
- all program books and materials
- a practice instrument for your home, if required

Upon completing Invitation to Music - Level One, your child will be able to read notes, recognize musical terms and symbols and use both hands on the keyboard to play songs.

Students in Invitation to Music - Level One require a home practice instrument beginning in January. If your child does not have a keyboard or piano to practice on, Tauber Music will provide a free rental keyboard from January to June. Students continuing in Level Two who do not have a keyboard at home will continue to receive a free rental until the end of December. After this, we are pleased to offer a low monthly rental fee for registered students.

Upon completing Invitation to Music - Level One, your child will be reading music, playing songs 'hands together' on the keyboard and have learned some basic music theory.

Invitation to Music – Level Two
Will your child begin Grade Two in September?
Would you like to determine your child’s interest and ability for music but don’t own a piano or keyboard? Would you like your child to learn music in a positive environment with other young children?

The right step in your child’s music development is Invitation to Music - Level Two. Using proven lesson plans, our instructor will motivate and teach your child. Training and activities include:

  • keyboard playing
  • ear training
  • rhythm training
  • musical games
  • musical crafts
  • workbook exercises and
  • music theory

Piano Program
Is your child showing an interest in playing the piano?
Would you like your child to experience the benefits of a music education?
Have you thought about taking piano lessons?

Whether learning for pleasure or to obtain extra credits in school, playing the piano has benefits for everyone. For school age children, piano lessons provide a constructive educational activity to occupy a child’s time and provide lifelong rewards. Extra credits in high school plus scientific evidence of better overall performance in many school subjects are only some of the advantages for students studying the piano. At Tauber Music, children seven years old and over, and adults, may learn to play the piano. For beginning students our Aptitude Music Program offers you the opportunity to try lessons before you decide to continue. For those students with previous piano training, our qualified RCM piano teachers will evaluate your current level of ability and recommend a program for continued study.

Mature Beginner Method
If the thought of exams and recitals make you nervous but playing the piano sounds like fun, this method is for you. Using books written for mature students, we’ll introduce you to the fundamentals of playing piano and music theory. Wow yourself with your newfound abilities as you learn to play popular and familiar songs. If you’re a beginner student, we recommend starting with the Aptitude Music Program for piano. Once you have mastered the basics you may choose to study a classical piano method or follow a more casual music program. Whatever your decision, learning and playing the piano will provide a relaxing and enjoyable pastime for years to come.

Popular Piano Method
A less formal approach to piano studies, this program is ideal for piano students who have achieved an intermediate level of knowledge and ability but are no longer interested in classical piano studies or taking music exams. Using the skills you have acquired, you will choose music from various styles that interest you and work to develop a repertoire of songs you can play for your personal enjoyment.

Guitar Program
Does your son or daughter show an interest in playing the guitar?
Would you like your child to experience the benefits of a music education?
Have you thought about learning to play the guitar?

Learning to play the guitar has educational and social benefits for everyone. For school aged children, guitar lessons provide an educational activity that is both constructive and rewarding. Students will experience increased self-esteem through pride of accomplishment plus, scientific studies have demonstrated that students who study a musical instrument may demonstrate better overall performance in school subjects.

For adult students, learning to play the guitar can be an opportunity to develop a new interest that may also become a relaxing hobby to be enjoyed for many years. Science has also shown that pursuing new educational activities as an adult may have cognitive benefits in later years.

At Tauber Music, children eight years old and over, and adults, may learn to play the guitar. For students with no previous instruction on the guitar, our Aptitude Music Program offers you the opportunity to try lessons on electric, steel-string acoustic or bass guitar before you decide on continued lessons. During the six week Aptitude Music Program students will begin by learning correct posture, how to properly hold your guitar and correct picking technique. You will also learn to read music, understand basic music theory, strum chords and play melodies on the guitar.

Electric and Acoustic Guitar
The objective of the guitar program is to teach important elements of guitar playing and to develop a student’s playing skills and music knowledge so they can learn any style of music that interests them. Students will be taught to sight-read music on all six strings, play melody lines, strum open chords, learn guitar technique, fretboard theory and ear training. Tauber music uses the Zerofret Guitar Method as its’ core program.

The Zerofret method enables students to follow a structured program from beginner to intermediate levels. Students interested in formal evaluations at the completion of a grade will be prepared by their instructor for a Tauber Music grade exam or for an exam given by the Registry of Guitar Tutors from the London College of Music.

Registry of Guitar Tutors
Tauber Music is a member of the Registry of Guitar Tutors at the London College of Music in England. This organization sets international standards for the study of electric and bass guitar and conducts annual examinations for guitar students.

Bass Guitar Method
The electric bass guitar is generally considered an accompaniment instrument. Most often, students already playing a six-string guitar will take up study of the bass guitar as a supplement to their regular guitar studies. Students learning to play bass guitar will be instructed in the following areas:

• learning to read bass clef music on all four strings
• playing basic accompaniment
• playing bass melodies
• pick-style and finger-style techniques

Keyboard/Digital Piano Program

If you would like to play the piano or keyboard but prefer a program that teaches more popular music styles like pop, jazz and rock plus combines the technology of new digital pianos and keyboards, this program is for you. Along with note reading, music theory and proper technique training for both piano and keyboard, you’ll discover how to make the most of the electronic functions on your digital piano or keyboard. Computer technology and digitally sequenced accompaniments make lessons fun and will prepare you for playing with other musicians. At Tauber Music, children eight years old and over, and adults, may learn to play the keyboard. For beginning students our Aptitude Music Program offers you the opportunity to try lessons before you decide to continue. For those students with previous piano or keyboard training, our instructors will evaluate your current level of ability and determine a program for continued study.

Vocal Program
Has your child expressed an interest in learning to sing?
Would you like to improve the quality of your singing voice?
Would you like to discover what your voice can do?

The voice is unlike any other musical instrument and is unique to every individual. For this reason vocal lessons must be tailored to each student to ensure proper development of the voice. Lessons will focus on developing and improving vocal qualities such as:

• a pleasing tone
• accuracy of pitch
• vocal strength and endurance
• increased range
• improved diction


Students will also learn correct posture and breathing techniques and be instructed in basic music theory to increase their knowledge of written music.

At Tauber Music vocal training is available to children ten years old and over, and adults. For beginning students our Aptitude Music Program offers you the opportunity to try and experience vocal lessons before deciding on continued lessons.

Music Theory Program


The study of music theory is designed to complement a student’s practical studies. Theory classes and examinations begin at the grade 5 practical level. Theory requirements ensure a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the following subjects:

• rudiments
• harmony
• music history

In Manitoba, successful completion of an RCM practical exam and RCM theory exam will enable high school students to obtain extra credits beginning in grade nine. Specific requirements are available through your school guidance department.

Tauber Music offers instruction for all levels of theory rudiments, harmony and history. Each year, classes are held between November and May for students requiring Preliminary, Grade One and Grade Two rudiments. Classes are one hour per week for twenty-four weeks and conclude just before the spring examination session. All students will be thoroughly prepared to successfully pass the examination.
